PALAWAN

In the mid west coast of Palawan a 22,202 hectare
terrestrial reservation known as the Puerto Princesa
Subterranean River National Park. It was created in
March 28, 1971 to protect the rich natural resources
found in the area. It features spectacular karsts or
limestone landscape known as the St. Paul mountain
range. Beneath the karsts is an 8.2 km. underground
river that flows directly to the sea and is affected by
the ocean tide making it unique natural phenomena.
The Park contains a full mountain to sea e-co-system,
which are among the most significant in Asia. It
represents valuable habitat important for biodiversity
conservation in the Palawan Bio-geographic Province.
These forest ecosystems are home 800 species of plants.
100 species of birds, 88 species of mammals, 19 species
of reptiles, and 10 species of amphibians.
The area was declared a natural World Heritage Site by
the United Nations Educational and Scientific
Organizations (UNESCO) on December 4, 1999.
On board a paddle boat with outrigger and equipped with
search light one enters a mystical environment exploring
the picth-dark inner recesses of the cavern. Every turn
and bend in its navigable stalagmite-pillared interiors
appears different rock formations and doomed
amphitheaters. |

3. Lu-li Island - an island visible only during low
tide; its name
was derived from the worlds "Lulubog-Lilitaw" meaning
sinking and floating island.
4. Starfish Sandbar Resort - an island with fine white
sand
and clear water that teems with starfish. Good for
snorkeling.
5. Snake Island - an island with long stretch of fine
white sand
and shaped like a snake. Good for diving, snorkeling and
fish feeding.
6. Pandan Island - white sand beach with coral reef
nearby.
