Camiguin is a pear-shaped
volcanic island in the northern tip of Mindanao. It is
approximately 90 kilometers north of the City of Cagayan de Oro.
It is bounded to the north by Bohol Sea, to the west by
Macajalar Bay, to the southeast by Gingoog Bay and to the east
by Butuan Bay.The Camiguin culture is a mixture of both Boholano
and Cebuano culture. It is very colorful and creative. The
people are deeply religious, hospitable and friendly. Cebuano is
the major dialect in the Province. However, in the towns of
Sagay and Guinsiliban, where most of the indigenous tribes
reside, the Kinamiguin dialect is still spoken. Kinamiguin is
derived from the Manobo dialect with some mixture of Boholano.

Getting There
From Cagayan De Oro there is 3 options
going to Balingoan Port (takes 1-1/2 hours)
- Take the public bus from Agora Market to Balingoan (Note: This is not very
comfortable due to many
stops along the way to pick-up and drop-off passengers and mostly buses
are fully packed and very
little to sit properly if you are lucky to get a seat.)
- Take a Van from Agora Market to Balingoan. This more comfortable and
direct, no stops along the
way, although mostly they tend to stuff as many passengers as
possible in the van.
- The most comportable way is to take a taxi (flag down anywhere) straight
to Balingoan. Sometimes
it requires you to negotiate about the price.
From Balingoan Pier buy a ticket and
take a boat to Benoni Port to Camiguin and it takes 50-60 minutes, most of
the tourist head for Mambajao. Or else take a special trip straight to where
you want to go. So you have the choice, depending on your budget, your time
and your experience in Traveltipid.com if you want to travel light, easy and
comfortable but relatively expensive or to travel in a hard way (cheap, it
takes longer and not so comfortable). If you really want to experience the
Philippines at its fullest, choose the local way, either way, ENJOY your
trip!!!
