sa Makati - Makati City
Considered to be one of the biggest events of
Makati, this month-long Christmas commemoration
started in 1987. Makati buildings suddenly shine
with Christmas lights with matching Christmas
decors. Even the center islands and sidewalks of the
busy thoroughfares are decorated with running
Christmas lights. This is a big signal for Filipinos
that the holidays are just around the corner.
*Grand Marian Procession - Intramuros, Manila
A Eucharistic celebration of the feast day of La
Immaculada Concepcion, patrones of Intramuros, on 08
December capped by a grand procession of more than
50 Marian images from all over the country and
participated by thousands of devotees.
*Maytinis - Kawit, Cavite
A town-wide Christmas tableau of biblical events
and re-enactment of the search for a room by the
Virgin Mary and St. Joseph being held every 24
December.
*Philippine Christmas Festivities - Nationwide
The coming of Christ is commemorated every 25
December through a nine-day early morning novena
mass called Simbang Gabi or Misa de Gallo. Simbang
Gabi, accompanied by parish choir, starts on 16
December and ends on Christmas eve. Christmas
festivities end on the first Sunday of January,
Three Kings Day.
*Salubong - Plaridel, Bulacan
Every 30 December, karistelas from as far as
Tondo and other parts of Bulacan troop to Plaridel
to start this annual event. The "Salubong" is
fetching of the Santiago Mata Moros from Barangay
Sipat with a long procession of colorfully costumed
groups of women gaily dancing to native music.
*San Fernando Giant Lantern Festival - San Fernando,
Pampanga
A festival of gigantic lanterns in multi-colored
designs unique only to the participating barangays
of Pampanga's capital town. Held every third week of
December.
*Kamundagan Festival - Naga City
Bustling Naga City becomes doubly busy this
whole month as it celebrates Christmas along with
its charter anniversary day. Expect the residents of
this community to play, pray and party with an
extended schedule of cultural shows, trade fairs and
civic parades. Not to be missed: the “kiri-kiri” and
“pastores” performances, both unique showcases of
traditional Bicolano culture.
*Pasko sa Sugbu - Cebu
Christmas in Cebu is celebrated with songs,
gifts, twinkling lights—and a month-long program of
yuletide events. Check out the nightly cultural
shows for taste of the season, Cebuano-style.
There’s also the various parol, christmas tree and
“daygon” competitions, participated in by students
from the city’s numerous schools.
